Know Before You Go: Completion Celebration at The Denver Zoo

What is the Completion Celebration?

  • Summer of Adventure’s Completion Celebration is a reward and celebration of all the young people who use the Denver Public Library and who completed their Adventure Guides. 
  • Come have a free and fabulous day surrounded by animals, library folk, friends, and family. 
  • All Summer of Adventure participants who complete their Adventure Guides will receive a Completion Prize and a VIP Ticket to the first ever city wide Completion Celebration.

When is the Completion Celebration?

  • Join us on August 10, 2024 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. 
  • The Denver  Zoo is open from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
  • Entry gates close at 4 p.m.

Where is the Completion Celebration?

  • Summer of Adventure’s Completion Celebration will be at the DENVER ZOO.

What is included in my VIP Ticket?

  • Every VIP Ticket admits 1 Summer of Adventure Participant and 1 Adult. 
  • 1 Denver Zoo Railroad Token- while supplies last 
  • 1 Zoo Snack Vouchers- while supplies last  

Who can come to the Completion Celebration?

  • All Summer of Adventure participants who complete their Adventure Guides! 
  • All Ages and Abilities 0-18 are welcome!
  • Every VIP Ticket admits 1 Summer of Adventure Participant and 1 Adult.

How old do guests have to be to visit Denver Zoo by themselves?

  • Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a person 18 years or older.

What do I do when I arrive at Denver Zoo on August 10th?

  • All Summer of Adventure participants will enter through the Main Entrance. Look for Denver Public Library signs and staff at the Main Entrance.  
  • Denver Public Library staff will ask for the Summer of Adventure participant’s name and help make sure everyone gets into Denver Zoo.

Is there free transportation to the Completion Celebration?

Who can I bring with my VIP Ticket?

  • Every VIP Ticket earned by completing the Summer of Adventure program admits 1 SoA Participant and 1 Adult. 
  • The Summer of Adventure program is open to All Ages and Abilities 0-18. 
  • Additional adults and young people who have not completed the Summer of Adventure program will be asked to purchase a ticket. We encourage whole families to participate and come to Denver Zoo together!
  • General admission tickets for Denver Zoo are:
    -Adults (Ages 12–64): $24
    -Seniors (Ages 65+): $21
    -Children (Ages 3–11): $18
    -Children 2 and Under: FREE

Can I bring food into Denver Zoo?

  • Yes! You are welcome to bring your own food into Denver Zoo and enjoy a picnic throughout the zoo’s campus.

Can I buy food at Denver Zoo?

  • Yes. Made-to-order and Grab-and-go food and beverage options are available throughout campus with easy online ordering at DenverZoo.org/eat

How much is Denver Zoo Parking- and where is it?

  • You may park in any of the parking lots adjacent to the zoo or in the zoo’s four-level parking garage. All of the parking is free. Access to these parking lots is along 23rd Avenue between York Street and Colorado Boulevard near the zoo’s main entrance.

Who will be at Denver Zoo on August 10th?

  • Denver Public Library Staff
  • Denver Public Library Bookmobile!
  • Denver Public Schools Registration bus
  • Denver Museum of Nature and Science Curiosity Cruiser 
  • The full campus of Denver Zoo Animals and their Zoo Keepers
  • Young people, ages 0-18, from across Denver who all use the library, joined in on Summer of Adventure, and completed the program.

Are there restrooms at Denver Zoo?

  • Yes. Restrooms are located through Denver Zoo with baby changing stations at all locations. Full-service restroom facilities that accommodate the physically challenged, nursing rooms, and family restrooms are also  available. View a digital map.

How long does it take to visit Denver zoo?

  • Many visitors to Denver Zoo spend an average of 1-3 hours at the zoo, but how long you stay is really up to you! They offer picnic areas, food, and activities that can offer an entire day's worth of fun and memories for you and your family.

What if it rains, or there is bad weather on August 10th?

  • Rain or shine, the Denver Public Library will be at Denver Zoo celebrating the end of Summer of Adventure and all the fabulous young people of DPL.

What if I dont bring my physical VIP Ticket with me on August 10th?

  • No problem! DPL knows when participants complete the Summer of Adventure program. All we need is your name.

What is the best time of day to visit Denver Zoo?

  • Denver Zoo recommends guests arrive early in the day, ideally when gates open for the day, or in the early afternoon, as mid-morning to noon is often the busiest part of the day. Please be aware that animals may choose to stay in the shade or behind the scenes when the temperatures rise.

What should I wear to visit Denver Zoo?

  • It’s going to be hot! Bringing hats, sunscreen, and water are highly encouraged. 
  • Did you collect any enamel pins or stickers through Summer of Adventure this year? This is a great day to wear them!
